Why does it pay to have your shock absorbers tested?
3/31/2008
Motorists should not underestimate the importance of a regular checkup of their shock absorbers. The shock absorbers keep gradually deteriorating during the course of their service and thus their loss of functionality is usually hard to notice. Therefore, the regular checkup of shock absorbers is an important issue. This practice may bring about a considerable savings in terms of operational costs and it also contributes to your safer driving. Last but not least, the new shock absorbers will make your ride to feel much more pleasant and comfortable.

Do you know why it is important having your shock absorber checked up regularly? Well, in general the poor shock absorbers have the following adverse impacts:

• They reduce the efficiency of braking and make braking distances longer.
• They reduce the effect of the anti-blocking system (ABS) and that of the electronic stability control (ESP).
• They increase a risk of the vehicle skidding on a wet road.
• They reduce your control over the vehicle when negotiating turns, when cornering and when encountering a strong side wind.
• They increase the driver’s fatigue and thus have an adverse influence on his/her agility and speed of response.
• They increase the rate of tire’s wear and tear as well as some other parts of the vehicle’s undercarriage.
• They cause the vehicle being jumpy whereby the high beam lights may cause dazzling the drivers driving in opposite direction.
• They make the ride to feel less comfortable.

It is considered the ideal practice to have the shock absorbers checked after each 30,000 kilometers.
